My story

I was born in 1956 and I became interested in photography very young.
Curious about man and his world, my interest immediately turned to documentary production and ethnic reporting through visiting many countries, among which are many European, India, Nepal, Ladakh, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Turkey, Niger, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia, Chad, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Usa, Cuba, Peru.

Many of my works tell stories and show pictures from these places in a personal manner.

In the last few years I’ve tried to express myself through nature. I want to portray nature in an extremely neat and essential fashion, emphasising its strength and beauty.

Many of my pictures have been published in photographic books, articles in specialised magazines, calendars and posters. Others have been used by tour operators.

People often ask what is the reason behind my traveling: “It is to find in foreign people those features which we all share, to approach them with an insatiable curiosity, but with the respect we owe to human beings who are the product of a deeply rooted culture, just like me.

While feeling I am a product of my times and of my society, I can not hide that our life is slowly losing the meaning of human relations.

This is the reason why I feel the need to re-discover, in societies who are still not disturbed by the effects of progress, the meaning of the words: simplicity, acceptance, giving, sacrifice, offering, tradition…

On the other hand I cannot remain indifferent to the negative or less noble aspects in the people I have met during my traveling, that is: cruelty, power, indifference, arrogance…

Even while finding some characteristics unacceptable in the people I have met, I always try and put them into the context which generated them.

My approach to the people I meet and most of all to Nature is based on a profound respect.

What we see is just the surface, but what is photographed is much more than that.

A good photo expresses a whole world.“

My relationship with Nature is a relationship with someone who always surprises without ever disappointing you… a world where we humans are present but not essential.
The experience gained through years of work, allied with sensitivity, attention and enthusiasm, give me the opportunity to work without ever exaggerating the photo retouch; my work is to let the pictures speak… I am just a witness to a world living beyond and over the words of humans.

I have travelled around the world and I am still doing it with great joy and permanent interest in Nature but the more I travel the more I discover, behind the corner or at the edge of the town… places which, in particular moments of the day and in certain climatic conditions, deserve my full attention and become the center of my work.

As much as the grey is rolling over the green, there are still treasures under our eyes… treasures which are worth trying hard to discover because they bring us back to the real value of things.
Behind every photo there is a whole world.
Behind every world there is a man who has imagined, prepared, and studied that photo for a long time, and having just framed it said: “there we are!”
I had never been interested in holding competitions, yet I had always longed for exchange, comparison and open discussion with other specialists in the field. At some point, I therefore decided it was time to share my experience through teaching.

In the last few years I’ve held many workshops on the field, both in Italy and in several parts of Europe.

In 1992 I discovered multi-image and immediately fell in love with it. I then began a long journey understanding the potential of this technique.
Meeting together at multimedia events at the national and international level allowed me to exchange my own ideas and create a multi-image culture which permitted me to identify my real objective: transmitting my emotions in order to communicate.
My first visual production saw experimentation of various techniques to combine audio with photos.
This process helped me create a very personal style which in future years became my calling card.
The salient characteristic of my style is finding the most accurate music to accompany the photos or better said to build the foundations which support the photos. Therefore photography often only becomes a visual element in a musical atmosphere.
During the reports, the main theme accompanies the spectator from the beginning to the end, leaving him with massages of great deepness he can often fully understand only after a while. A non-banal content and a slight poetic influence enrich the sensitivity of my works.

I exchanged ideas with other international authors participating at many national and European competitions where I received great acclaim.

Meeting Phil Ogden and with a later visit to First Image & Snappers of London, one of the biggest firms in the world producing multi-image, allowed me to make an important step forward in choosing my way regarding multi-image.

I tried to make better known this fantastic method of expression by organizing festivals and also courses for those who wanted to learn more about multi-image.

The constant search for improving my work brought me to collaborate with musical and theatrical groups to produce multi-image sets.

The production of complex projection systems for fixed installations and museums added greatly to my knowledge.

It is hard to put into words the powerful emotional impact a multi-image show has on the audience. The special atmosphere it creates and its musical involvement bring the viewer to a particularly evocative, truly unique experience.
